BREAKING NEWS: 3 Former Tigers Detroit are in talks to sign for a Reunion in Free Agency

With the retirement of Miguel Cabrera and the departure of Eduardo Rodriguez, Detroit has some money to spend in free agency this offseason.

There are many talented players available, including some well-known names.

Let’s take a look at the three most likely former Tigers to return to Detroit this offseason.
Three former Tigers Detroit Might Sign a Free Agent
It’s no secret that the Tigers’ roster has holes, and it wouldn’t hurt to fill them with some former players.

The most pressing needs for Detroit are starting rotation help and power hitting, which these former Tigers provide.

Phillies acquire All-Star SP Michael Lorenzen from Tigers - CBS Philadelphia

SP Michael Lorenzen
Rodriguez WAS the anchor of Detroit’s starting rotation, but his unlikely return leaves a void.

Not to mention the slew of injuries that have hampered Tarik Skubal, Matt Manning, and Casey Mize’s development.
A dependable veteran starter like Lorenzen is exactly what Detroit requires. He had a difficult run with Philadelphia, but as a Tiger, he had a 3.58 ERA across 105 23 innings and a 5-7 record.

Lorenzen could be a low-cost innings eater for the Tigers, filling out the back end of their rotation.

3B Jeimer Candelario YIKES.

Report: Nationals agree to one-year contract with 3B Jeimer Candelario - WTOP News

Allowing Candelario to walk this offseason appeared to be a mistake last season, didn’t it?

Outside of Spencer Torkelson, Jake Rogers, and Kerry Carpenter, the Tigers could have used Candelario (22 HR, 39 2Bs last season).

Detroit could also benefit from a starting third baseman. At the moment, the best options are super-utility player Matt Vierling or a rookie call-up like Justin Henry-Malloy. Candelario, at a reasonable price, could help bridge that gap this season.

J.D. Martinez, DH

Martinez was a fan favorite in Detroit from 2014 to 2017 and has been a legitimate slugger at every stop since.

He’s now 36 years old and has played in 14 MLB seasons, but he did just hit 33 home runs, 103 RBIs, and had a.271 batting average LAST SEASON!

Given Cabrera’s retirement and Detroit’s need for a veteran hitter, this move almost seems too obvious.

Even if it doesn’t work out, wouldn’t it be fun to see Martinez in Tigers gear again?
