DONE DEAL: Detroit Tigers have announced the signing of Former Promising Astros Utility man in free agency

Before the 2023 season, the Houston Astros made a trade for a promising utility player. To acquire Bligh Madris, they sent cash considerations to the Detroit Tigers.

Unfortunately, that trade did not work out for either party, and he has now signed a minor league deal with the Tigers this offseason, according to MLB Trade Rumors.

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected the infielder/outfielder in Round 9 of the 2017 MLB Draft, and he went on to win Rookie of the Year for the Pirates’ Triple-A affiliate in 2021.

Madris’ promising minor league performance did not translate to the MLB when he made his debut in 2022.

In 39 games with Pittsburgh, the utilityman had a slash line of.177/.244/.265 with one home run and seven RBI.

After being designated for assignment, Madris was claimed by the Tampa Bay Rays and played 10 games for their Triple-A affiliate before being designated for assignment again and being claimed by Detroit.

The Astros acquired the utilityman, who primarily played for their Triple-A affiliate, posting a.249/.363/.446 slash line with 10 home runs and 36 RBI.

After a strong showing in the minors, Houston promoted him to the Major League roster in June to give him another shot at the big leagues.

Unfortunately, his second MLB stint was similar to his first, as he slashed. In 12 games, he hit 154/.267/.192 with no home runs, zero RBI, and one extra base hit.

Madris was demoted once more to make room for first baseman Jon Singleton’s promotion.

Following the season, he chose free agency and signed with the Tigers for the following season.
