On the news front, Thursday was a busy day for the Atlanta Braves. Most notably, after an outstanding 2023 season, star outfielder Ronald Acua Jr. was named National League MVP. His first MVP award came as a complete surprise, as he received all 30 first-place votes. Shohei Ohtani received the American League award, which was also unanimously awarded.
Acua, 25, had a staggering 2023. He slashed.337/.416/.596 and set a record with 41 home runs and 73 stolen bases. He was the fifth player in major league history to join the 40/40 club, and he went on to found the 40/70 club.

As an MVP winner for the Braves, Acua joins Freddie Freeman, Chipper Jones, Terry Pendleton, Dale Murphy, Hank Aaron, Robert Elliott, and John Evers.

Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Ozzie Albies, and Marcell Ozuna were also nominated.
