Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics has had a strong start to the 2023-24 NBA season. Despite the talent that Boston added around him this offseason, Tatum’s stats have barely dipped this season, and Boston has looked like the best team in the Eastern Conference early on in the season, currently leading the conference with an impressive 9-3 record.
Tatum was recently informed that many of his Chinese fans refer to him as “The Cute Rabbit,” and he was asked about his thoughts on the nickname during a Celtics press conference.
“The cute rabbit?” inquired Tatum, according to Celtics on CLNS. “Give it to me. I think I’m pretty attractive. I’m grateful.”
According to CelticsWire’s Cameron Tabatabaie, the nickname comes from the way Tatum’s name is translated.
Whatever you want to call him, there’s no denying that Jayson Tatum has appeared to be a man on a mission so far in the 2023-24 NBA season. After falling to the eighth-seeded Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals last season, the Celtics added reinforcements in the form of Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis to help bolster the supporting cast around Tatum and versatile costar Jaylen Brown.
So far, the results have been spectacular, with the Celtics cruising to four straight victories and first place in the conference. Of course, no one doubts Tatum or his teammates’ ability to perform during the regular season, and the team will have to wait a few months before they can truly silence the critics during the playoffs.
