BREAKING NEWS: Patrick Mahomes brutal verdict on Chiefs’ receivers after crucial drops

Following the Chiefs’ loss to the Eagles on Monday night, quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked several questions about multiple dropped passes, but he refused to criticize his receivers.

The deep ball to Marquez Valdes-Scantling, which could have been the game-winning touchdown, was perhaps the biggest blunder. Mahomes hit Valdes-Scantling in the hands, but he couldn’t hold on, and Mahomes later said he wished he could have made the catch a little easier for his receiver.

“Because they triple-teamed Travis [Kelce], I went to the guy who won downfield, and Marquez won.” He simply did not receive the ball. “He was that open, I could have thrown it a little shorter,” Mahomes said.

Mahomes’ final pass, to Justin Watson on fourth-and-25 on the Chiefs’ final offensive play, should have been a 27-yard gain, but it went through Watson’s hands. Despite plays like that, Mahomes said his receivers know he believes in them.

“They know I’m gonna keep firing it,” Mahomes said. “Usually, they’ll make the plays. It occurs.”
Mahomes has repeatedly refused to say that dropped passes are the Chiefs’ problem.

“That didn’t just lose the game, there was a lot of stuff that happened,” Mahomes said in a statement. “It all starts with me.” I need to improve my throws at certain times.”

Again, Mahomes: “I didn’t make good enough passes in certain situations.”

Mahomes credited the Chiefs’ defense for their strong play this season and expressed confidence that the offense can improve.

“I know how hard the guys work at the end of the day,” Mahomes said in a statement. “We’ve had spurts where we’ve played good offensive football.” All you can do is go to work and keep improving.”

Mahomes is still playing at an MVP level, but his receivers need to get to work and improve significantly.
