TRADE WRAP: Cleveland Browns Sign Veteran Quarterback Eyeing Active Roster Promotion: A Strategic Move Amidst Deshaun Watson’s Season-Ending Injury

Joe Flacco, an experienced quarterback, was added to the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad on Monday, an important move predicted by insiders like Field Yates and ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Rumor has it that Flacco will be added to the active roster soon.

This calculated move was made in response to the Browns’ Friday practice, which was designed to address Deshaun Watson’s absence. Watson will be out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. Notably, prior to finalizing the deal, the team did not investigate other quarterback options, instead focusing solely on acquiring Flacco.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson took over in the Browns’ 13-10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Despite attempting 24 passes on 43 attempts for 165 yards and one interception, Thompson-Robinson was in command of a critical drive that resulted in the game-winning field goal in the final seconds. Quarterback PJ Walker is also on the Browns’ roster.

Joe Flacco brings a wealth of experience to Cleveland, having accumulated 42,320 passing yards and 232 touchdowns in his career. Interestingly, he was named Super Bowl MVP in 2013 while playing for the Baltimore Ravens.

Flacco, 38, last started a game for the New York Jets in the 2022 season. He demonstrated his ability in Week 2 against Cleveland by leading a stunning fourth-quarter comeback, tossing four touchdown passes, including the game-winning pass to Garrett Wilson with only 22 seconds remaining.
