BREAKING NEWS: Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney makes move to address growing frustrations

Darnell Mooney, the Bears’ wide receiver, is said to have discussed his limited role in the offense with the team.
Just as it appears that the Chicago Bears are getting a handle on things, more potentially negative news emerges. According to ESPN radio host Marc Silverman, wide receiver Darnell Mooney is dissatisfied with his role in the offense.

Bears: Justin Fields weapon Darnell Mooney makes move to address growing frustrations

“I know for a fact that Darnell Mooney has privately had conversations with management about his lack of a role with this team,” he said on his show, Waddle and Silvy, according to Jordan Campbell of FanSided. “He’s one of the hardest workers, but he’s been very private about his dissatisfaction.” He desires a larger role.”

Mooney’s professionalism is admirable, and this fan base should recognize it. For far too long, the Bears have been plagued by dysfunction. There isn’t much room for outside distractions.

Looking at his stats, it’s easy to see why the 26-year-old would be frustrated. He has only 23 receptions for 345 yards and one touchdown in his last three games, and he has only eight catches on 11 targets. DJ Moore is the only wideout putting up meaningful numbers in this Justin Fields-led offense.

Darnell Mooney, on the other hand, is wasting away. The blame cannot be placed solely on Fields or the Bears’ coaching staff, but the 2020 fifth-round pick has previously proven himself to be a capable option. He is less than two years removed from surpassing 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. Can he resume production under this regime?

Mooney’s unlucky contract year continues on Sunday, when the Bears (3-8) travel to Minnesota for a Monday Night Football game. Fans will be watching to see if his reported pleas piqued anyone’s interest.
