HUGE THOUGHT: Fans blast Atlanta Falcons’ Arthur Smith for showing too much belief in star as the tag him way to his doom

Before the bye, Atlanta Falcons safety Richie Grant struggled against the Arizona Cardinals.

Grant allowed the 33-yard pass play that put the Cardinals in field goal range, ultimately leading to Matt Prater’s game-winning field goal against the Falcons. Grant was understandably frustrated after the game, but head coach Arthur Smith remains confident in his safety.

Patience and faith:' Richie Grant discusses how he has progressed through rookie year

“Like a lot of our guys, they all care,” Smith said earlier this week. “You also have to be careful not to allow people to be overly pessimistic at times.” Those guys are concerned. We have a lot of faith in Richie.

“When you give up a play at a critical moment, it’s easy to get down.” But there are numerous other factors. You lose sight of what is good. ‘How do you go in there, and how do we fix this?’ you ask. There aren’t 70 plays in a game like that, but those are highlighted. I have a lot of faith in him.”

Grant is only in his third season in the NFL, so growing pains are to be expected, but it’s understandable why he’d be upset after giving up a game-changing play.

Everything is still on the table for the Falcons. They may be 4-6, but they are still in the playoff hunt in the NFC South, especially with the opponent on the horizon.
Atlanta will host the New Orleans Saints in a crucial division matchup on Sunday, and a win would go a long way toward salvaging the Falcons’ season.

The game between Atlanta and New Orleans will be televised on FOX on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
