The Boston Celtics are preparing for a tough matchup against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday, but they will be without Kristaps Porzingis. According to Kaley Brown of Boston.com, the Celtics announced that the star center will be out due to a calf injury suffered in Friday’s game against the Orlando Magic.
Despite the setback, Porzingis posted a positive update on Instagram, expressing confidence in his recovery: “I have good news this morning. “I’ll be back soon,” Brown wrote.
The Celtics are disappointed because he has been a key contributor this season, averaging 18.9 points, 54.7 field goal percentage, 5.2 defensive rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. Porzingis’ absence will be felt on the court against the Hawks.
Jrue Holiday, another important Celtics player, is listed as ‘questionable’ for the upcoming game. Holiday did not play against the Magic on Friday due to an ankle sprain, despite being listed as ‘probable’ to do so. The 33-year-old guard’s defensive prowess and offensive contributions have been crucial for the team, averaging 5.4 defensive rebounds, 39% three-point shooting, and 3.8 assists per game in his first season in Boston.
Holiday’s offensive production has slowed since the beginning of the season, when he averaged 15.2 points per game in his first seven games. He only scored five points in 35 minutes against his former team, the Milwaukee Bucks. The Celtics will be eager to get him back on the court, especially after their 113-96 loss in Florida without him.
The Celtics, who are currently 6-0 at home, play the Hawks on Sunday at 6 p.m. Eastern Time. The Celtics will look to maintain their home-court dominance in what promises to be a difficult matchup despite the absence of Porzingis and the uncertainty surrounding Holiday’s availability.
