JUST IN: Browns issues a major injury update on key trio Garrett, Cooper, Elliott and DTR

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — The Cleveland Browns had several players injured in Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, and while the situation appeared bleak in the 29-12 loss on Sunday, there may have been a silver lining on Monday.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the game’s quarterback, left the game in the third quarter to be evaluated for a head injury after taking a hit that left his mouth bloody. At quarterback, P.J. Walker took over. Thompson-Robinson was ruled out due to a concussion. Amari Cooper left Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos in the fourth quarter after taking a hard hit to the midsection. With a rib injury, he was ruled out.

Defensively, Myles Garrett was sidelined for several plays due to what was thought to be a wrist injury. He was never labeled as injured, but he did leave the field for rest at times on Sunday. Garrett was seen wearing a sling in the locker room after the game, telling reporters that he felt a “pop” in his shoulder during the game. Defensive tackle Jordan Elliott was also hurt, and head coach Kevin Stefanski described it as an ankle injury after the game.

However, following additional scans and evaluations on Monday, it appears that the majority of the Browns injuries suffered on Sunday were not long-term issues.

Cooper’s X-rays were negative, Garrett’s MRIs were negative for structural damage, and Elliott’s ankle injury is considered “day-to-day.”

Garrett, who is still in a sling, is only experiencing soreness, according to Stefanski. The head coach believes that as long as the pain does not become too severe, Garrett should be able to play through it, as the defensive end stated to reporters in the locker room following Sunday’s game.

The Browns will keep an eye on Cooper and Elliott throughout the week, but the team “feels good” about their availability for their next game against the Rams in Los Angeles.

Thompson-Robinson, on the other hand, is concerned with his ability to progress through concussion protocol rather than the severity of his injury.

The rookie quarterback will be watched and evaluated throughout the week to see if he can clear concussion protocols and return to practice. Unlike his teammates who were injured, he will not be able to play if he exhibits concussion symptoms throughout the week.

Stefanski stated that they will keep an eye on Thompson-Robinson throughout the week while also considering their options at quarterback if he remains in protocol. Walker replaced the rookie as the only other quarterback on the active roster, but the Browns recently added veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, who could be a candidate to be added to the active roster if he can get a waiver.\

These are the decisions the team will make as they remain on the West Coast, practicing this week on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles.
