The Los Angeles Rams are currently dealing with secondary injuries, with second-year safety Quentin Lake being one of the most notable.
Lake, a former sixth-round pick out of UCLA, appeared in the Rams’ first ten games, starting two of them, before suffering a hamstring injury and missing Sunday’s win over the Arizona Cardinals. Unfortunately for the Rams, it appears that his injury will keep him out of Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns. While coach Sean McVay didn’t rule Lake out right away, he did say a return this week is unlikely.
“I would say probably not this week,” McVay said to reporters on Monday. “But, once again, we’ll see how he does.” I was very pleased with how Russ Yeast and Decobie Durant performed in his absence. John Johnson is getting a lot of snaps at safety and doing an excellent job. Yesterday, I thought he and (Jordan) Fuller were outstanding. We’ll take it day by day; I’m not ready to rule him out completely. But I doubt he’ll be able to make it back in time for this game.”
Lake didn’t get much playing time as a rookie, but he’s done well in his second season. In 10 games, the 24-year-old has 33 total tackles and three passes defended while primarily playing as a slot defender. He played every defensive snap in the Rams’ win over the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 19, his best game of his young career.
