The New York Yankees are looking to improve their starting rotation, and it appears that they are going all out. After winning only 82 games in 2023, it has been speculated that the Yankees will spend heavily this offseason to improve their roster. Last season, New York had high expectations but fell short of them. The Yankees have a lot of talent on their team, but injuries and a lackluster offense ruined their season. The club’s top priority should be to improve the offense, but adding another elite starting pitcher to the mix can’t hurt. According to reports, New York has been linked to Orix Buffaloes phenom Yoshinobu Yamamoto on numerous occasions and is making a push to sign him.
“Yankees and Mets are both going hard for Yamamoto,” Mr. Heyman said. “It’s a rare Big Apple battle royale (of course many other teams are involved, too).” At this point, New York has been mentioned as the favorite to land Yamamoto on multiple occasions, so it’s not surprising to see more speculation about a move. The Yankees could use another starter, and if they could pair Yamamoto with Gerrit Cole, they would have one of the best rotations in the league right away.
Yamamoto will be pricey, but at only 25 years old, he could be a solid piece to build around for the foreseeable future. At this point, it appears that a signing is a distinct possibility, but we will most likely have to wait another week or two before any action is taken.
