Montreal Canadiens: Montreal Canadiens goaltender Mentoring The Next Generation

Carey Price’s potential Hall of Fame career with the Montreal Canadiens ended in the most unfortunate way after a miraculous run to the 2021 Stanley Cup final.

Price’s knee just couldn’t heal properly, and it appears that the Canadiens Cinderella run was far too much for the Anahim Lake, BC native’s body. He hasn’t officially retired, but his playing days are over. The games in which he single-handedly stole wins with ridiculous performances are now a distant memory.

Price has managed to stay involved despite the fact that his playing days are over. He has been in contact with another goaltender who is just beginning his NHL career. Devon Levi, a Montreal, Quebec native, recently spoke with Spittin Chiclet’s Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney about what Price’s words meant to him.

Levi explained that he met Price, who played for his hometown Canadiens, when he was 11 or 12 years old. The Sabres goaltender grew up idolizing Price and recalls having a Facetime conversation with Price that was so genuine. On another occasion, Levi’s NHL debut was approaching, and Price texted him to wish him luck and offer some advice.

The truth is that Price was a Canadiens stalwart for many years and a Montreal legend. The fact that he has devoted time to assisting one of the NHL’s most promising goaltenders of the future speaks volumes about Price’s character.

Despite failing to reach the pinnacle of NHL hockey with the Canadiens, Price remains upbeat and optimistic. While he struggles to accept the end of his professional hockey career, he remains committed to the sport’s future. Jacob Fowler isn’t from Montreal, but Quentin Miller is, so maybe they’ll get their chance to speak with Mr. Saturday Night himself.

Price’s presence, combined with his huge heart and love for the game, shines through. If mentors like Price are guiding the goalies of tomorrow today, the future of goaltending is in good hands.

Despite all of the adversity and injury trouble that he has faced, he has found the time to assist a 21-year-old goaltender who is on his way to becoming an NHL starting goaltender.
