Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh’s season has been marred by the sign-stealing scandal that has engulfed their program. This could complicate his future at Michigan. One NFL team is reportedly interested in bringing Harbaugh back to the league.
After the 2021 season, Harbaugh was famously involved in a number of NFL coaching searches. He was even a finalist for the Minnesota Vikings coaching job before Kevin O’Connell was hired.
Since then, Harbaugh has been adamant that he intends to stay at Michigan and will not return to coaching in the NFL. However, the controversy surrounding Michigan’s football program may be enough to persuade him otherwise.
If he changes his mind, the Chicago Bears may be interested in signing him. On The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Wednesday, Dianna Russini of The Athletic revealed that the Bears have “had conversations” about potentially hiring Harbaugh if they part ways with current head coach Matt Eberflus.
“Ever since Jim (Harbaugh) left the NFL, his name has been mentioned. But things have heated up in the last week or so. I’ve heard that the Chicago Bears have had discussions about this, depending on the decisions they make about their current coaching staff. His name is well-known in league circles throughout the NFL.
I believe this trend will continue as the NFL season draws to a close.”
Fans had a lot to say about Harbaugh possibly returning to the NFL to coach the Bears.
Harbaugh has a proven track record at both the collegiate and NFL levels, so NFL teams will likely continue to be interested in him.
It will ultimately come down to whether Harbaugh wishes to return to the NFL. And we’ll undoubtedly hear more about whether or not this is the case as the NFL season winds down.
