The Braves are said to be one of the major suitors for Dylan Cease, who could be traded as soon as this week. Cease is a Georgia native but is represented by Scott Boras, so it’s unclear how likely an Anthopoulous Special (TM) Extension would be if the Braves traded for him, but he does have two years of arbitration left.
The prospect cost would not be cheap, but the Braves do have some options, such as Vaughn Grissom, who do not have an obvious spot in the major leagues. Cease has been quite durable, making 32+ starts in the last three seasons and ranging from good to great. He’d be a valuable addition to the Braves’ rotation.
I’d like to know what the odds are for signing Cease to an extension, but based on his last three seasons, he’s clearly a player who would make the Braves significantly better.
