For the first time in his career, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will take the field at Lambeau Field’s frozen tundra.
While the MVP-winning quarterback has visited the Green Bay Packers’ stadium, he has never played there.
Since Mahomes’ draft, Kansas City has only played there twice. The first was during the preseason, when he did not play, and the second was in 2019, when he was sidelined due to a knee injury.
However, the Chiefs will travel to Wisconsin on Sunday Night Football for Mahomes’ first game there.
‘I’m extremely excited for it,’ Mahomes said of playing at Lambeau Field during a press conference on Wednesday. ‘I’ve watched it my entire life, and I know it’s going to be a hostile environment; the fans will be loud, and it’ll be a lot like Arrowhead is to other teams, as you’re saying.
If you like football, you’ll love Lambeau Field. I’m thrilled to have the chance to play there.’
The game should be a good one, with the Packers having recently had a good run of success, beating the Los Angeles Chargers and the Detroit Lions to improve to a 7-0 record.
Mahomes has scouted the Packers’ NFC North rivals, whom the Chiefs have all faced this season, to gain a good understanding of what Green Bay will throw at them.
‘Every single game, [Packers QB] Jordan [Love] has gotten better and better,’ Mahomes said.
‘He’s always had the talent, but as he gets more and more reps — I mean, he didn’t play for three years, basically — you can see how much more comfortable he’s getting.
‘They have playmakers all over the place, and their defense is strong.’ It will be a great challenge for us, and they are a hot football team that just defeated another great football team, so they are confident.
We have to match that confidence and try to win a football game.’
Kansas City is only on a one-game winning streak, having defeated the Raiders last Sunday after losing to the Eagles the week before.
