The Green Bay Packers are 5-6 heading into their Week 12 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. With the Seattle Seahawks’ loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football, the Packers could move into the final NFC Wild Card spot with a win over the 8-3 Chiefs.
Obviously, that will not be an easy task, but the Packers have been playing their best football recently. Jordan Love’s offense has been on fire, and the defense has been putting pressure on the opposing quarterback. The Packers’ defense could get a boost before facing Patrick Mahomes on Sunday Night Football.
Prior to facing Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, the Green Bay Packers may add safety Darnell Savage to their defense.
The Packers Wire’s Paul Bretl reports:
With Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on the horizon, the Green Bay Packers are hoping that the return of starting safety Darnell Savage will help their secondary this week.
“Potentially,” Matt LaFleur said on Monday when asked if Savage could be activated off IR. “That is the intention. That is my hope. But we were hoping he would return last week, but he didn’t. So we’ll take it in stride and see where he is at the end of the week.”
During the Packers’ Week 6 game against Denver, Savage aggravated a calf injury, landing him on injured reserve. He was designated to return and returned to practice with the Packers last week, giving him a three-week window to be added back to the 53-man roster.
What Would Adding Savage To The Defense Do For The Packers Against Mahomes?
Adding depth in the secondary will be critical for the Packers’ defense as they prepare to face one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks.
The Packers were concerned about safety at the start of the season, and Savage has started 65 games in five seasons at that position for the Packers. It will be huge to reclaim that experience.
