Fields is nearing the end of his third season with the Chicago Bears. He has appeared in 35 games for the Bears, and he has had his share of highlights and key mistakes. Fields has been observed by ESPN analyst and Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman throughout his career, and he saw him up close and personal last Monday night when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings 12-10 in a nationally televised game.
Fields hit wide receiver D.J. Moore with a key 36-yard pass late in the fourth quarter, setting up Cairo Santos’ game-winning field goal. Fields fumbled twice in the fourth quarter before making that throw. One of those fumbles set up Minnesota’s game-winning touchdown, and the second fumble could have cost the Vikings the game if the Bears hadn’t played outstanding defense.
Aikman believes the Bears have enough evidence to make a decision on their future quarterback needs. The Bears have their own draft pick as well as the Carolina Panthers’, and they could have the first pick in a draft that includes some highly regarded quarterbacks.
In an interview with Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel on WSCR-AM (Audacy), Aikman stated, “My thought is they probably already know the answer to that.” I’m not sure what he might show them here at the end of the season will influence that decision.”
Troy Aikman did not say whether the Bears would stick with Justin Fields or look for a new quarterback, but he did say that NFL teams are “less patient” with young quarterbacks than in the past.
This could imply that the Bears will draft a new quarterback.
