The Cleveland Browns have lost another offensive star after wide receiver Amari Cooper left Sunday’s game early due to a hard hit.
Cooper took his time leaving the field and went straight to the medical tent. With about 6 minutes left in the second quarter, he walked to the locker room. Cooper has been able to play through injury throughout his career, including last year when he struggled to suit up late in the season.
He has been the Browns’ most productive wide receiver by far. Cooper has the most receptions (49) and yards (799) for the Browns. He’s also the team’s only receiver who averages more than 10 yards per catch.
Cooper had two catches for 34 yards before leaving the game against the Rams. He was looking forward to working with veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, who impressed early on with some impressive throws.
“He appears to be in good shape. Cooper said on Thursday, November 30th, “He throws a very pretty ball.” “I’m not sure if it’s intentional or not, but when he drops back and lets it go, it’s like poetry in motion.” It appears to be in good condition.”
Cooper’s toughness was praised by Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt during the week.
“Amari man is unique. He battles his way through everything to get there. He’ll probably do it again this week, but on game day, he lights up,” Van Pelt said. “So toughness is something you don’t have to be concerned about with Amari.” He’ll be there if he can, and on game day, he’ll be his best self.”
The Browns’ offensive line has been decimated by injuries, and Cooper is the latest casualty. Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb suffered a knee injury in Week 2 and franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson was ruled out for the season in November due to a broken bone in his shoulder.
Watson’s replacement, rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson, suffered a concussion against the Denver Broncos on Nov. 26. Thompson-Robinson failed to clear concussion protocol this week, forcing Flacco to take over as starter.
Flacco spent the first few weeks of the season sitting on his couch, but the 38-year-old quarterback was eager to show he still had something left in the tank.
“It’s definitely exciting,” Flacco said on Thanksgiving Day. “Aside from playing football, there are a lot of things about being at this point in my life that make it really exciting.” Having young children and feeling their excitement about it adds so much to it now. And being away puts things into perspective a little. And, as I previously stated, you simply try to let these opportunities take care of themselves while doing your best to be prepared for them.”
