On Monday, the New York Yankees are expected to hold talks about a potential blockbuster trade. The New York Yankees have long been linked to Juan Soto of the San Diego Padres. At this point, Soto’s trade is almost certain, and the only question is who will acquire him. The Yankees are thought to be the favorites to land the superstar, but San Diego’s initial offer was too high, causing the negotiations to stall. Despite this, The Athletic’s Brendan Kuty reports that New York will meet with the Padres again on Monday to discuss a possible deal.
“Whether it’s on the phone or it’s in a posh suite or at an overpriced restaurant or bar at the maze-like Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and A.J. Preller, his Padres counterpart, will re-engage over Soto, the 25-year-old lefty slugger who might wind up the best player traded all offseason.” Soto is one of the best players in baseball and would immediately fill New York’s most pressing need.
The Yankees need to strengthen their middle infield, as well as add an outfielder and a left-handed bat. Soto would assist in resolving all of these issues. The main issue is that New York will have to pay a king’s ransom, and Soto will be a free agent at the end of the 2024 season, but the Yankees must make a significant move. Soto could be an excellent addition.
