As the Atlanta Braves prepare for the Winter Meetings, General Manager Alex Anthopoulos has proposed an intriguing option for the team’s outfield configuration. In a statement that has sparked debate among Braves fans, Anthopoulos stated that if the season began today, prospect Vaughn Grissom would be considered for the left field position.
Grissom, who will play left field in Puerto Rico this winter, is typically an infielder but could find himself in a new role come spring, according to The Athletic’s David O’Brien on X, formerly Twitter. This move is dependent on the Braves’ offseason actions; if they do not sign another left fielder, Grissom will be the primary option.
Another Braves organization player, Forrest Wall, has been mentioned as a possible left field candidate.
Anthopoulos has not ruled out bringing in a “established, bona fide guy” for left field if the right opportunity presents itself. While Grissom is a strong internal option, the Braves are keeping their options open as they enter the free agent and trade markets.
Grissom’s name has come up frequently in Braves news, particularly after his promising performance after being called up due to Ozzie Albies’ injury. The young infielder has shown promise and versatility, which the Braves highly value in their players.
The Braves have a history of promoting prospects for September call-ups and are not afraid to make big decisions about their young players. Vaughn Grissom’s case appears to be similar, with the team eager to give him a chance to prove himself in a new role.
