LANSING, MI (WILX) – The Detroit Tigers’ manager has agreed to a new contract extension. Originally, A.J. Hinch was expected to be signed through the 2025 season, but the terms of the new contract have yet to be announced. According to Scott Harris, Detroit’s president of baseball operations, Hinch will be the Tigers’ manager “for a long time.”
Hinch was hired in 2020 to replace Ron Gardenhire, who had been suspended for a season due to the Houston Astros’ cheating scheme. Hinch led the Astros to the World Series in 2017. He was Houston’s manager from 2015 to 2019.
Hinch has a 221-265 record in three seasons with Detroit, but the Lions went 78-84 this season, their best record since 2016.
