One former New York Yankees player appears to have a strong free-agent market.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa, a former Yankees utility player, is now a free agent looking for a new team. He spent the last two seasons with the Yankees, but it appears that he will be playing elsewhere in 2024. According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, Kiner-Falefa is being pursued by “several teams” at the moment.
“Isiah Kiner-Falefa is drawing interest from several teams, a source said, giving him options as he searches for his next club,” Feinsand said in a statement. Not only does Kiner-Falefa have options for teams, but he also appears to have options for the role he will play. Some teams see the 28-year-old as a possible starter at shortstop or third base, while others see him as a super-utility player.
“Kiner-Falefa spent the last two years with the Yankees, where he played six different positions and even pitched four innings.” He is expected to sign a multi-year contract.
” Kiner-Falefa was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the fourth round of the 2013 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft and made his major league debut in 2018. He spent the first four seasons of his major league career in Texas before joining the Yankees in 2022. Kiner-Falefa hit six home runs, drove in 37 runs, stole 14 bases, and slashed.242/.306/.340 in 113 games last season.
Last season, the 28-year-old saw action all over the field for New York. He played second base, shortstop, third base, left field, center field, right field, and even pitcher at times. He’s unlikely to return to the Yankees at this point, but he clearly has a strong market.
