Tyler Shough, a former Oregon and Texas Tech quarterback, has committed to the Louisville Cardinals. On Tuesday, he announced his decision via social media.
“Let’s play football. #GoCards,” Shough wrote on Twitter. Shough declared his intention to transfer on November 19 after suffering a fractured fibula against West Virginia on September 23, just two weeks after facing Oregon, which ended his season. After struggling with the Ducks under head coach Mario Cristobal, the Gilbert, Arizona native reinvented himself as a quarterback in Lubbock.
In five years as a college quarterback, he has thrown for 4,625 yards and 75 touchdowns against 17 interceptions while completing 63.2% of his passes. He can also get out of the pocket and run when necessary, rushing for 714 yards and 10 touchdowns on 204 attempts.
Shough’s arrival in Louisville comes at an ideal time for head coach Jeff Brohm, as the Cardinals are preparing to break in a new starting quarterback after the departure of senior Jack Plummer this season.
Louisville will face the USC Trojans in the DIRECTV Holiday Bowl on December 27 after a 16-6 loss to the undefeated Florida State Seminoles in the ACC Championship Game last weekend.
