JUST IN: Chicago Bears new president provide updates on location for new stadium

Since Kevin Warren took over as the Chicago Bears’ new president, very little information has been released about the team’s stadium project.

Warren was hired to be Ted Phillips’ replacement in large part because he previously facilitated the construction of the Minnesota Vikings’ stadium.

While the Bears purchased the Arlington Park land in Arlington Heights, the team has yet to announce their official stadium plans.

Warren, along with newly elected Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson, appear to have repaired the Bears’ strained relationship with the city of Chicago. To that end, the Parkins and Spiegel Show of 670 The Score reported on Wednesday that the Bears are looking into the possibility of building their new stadium in the South Lot of Soldier Field, which is currently under construction.

Currently, the South Lot serves as a large parking lot and tailgating area. It’s unclear how serious the Bears are about building a stadium on that site. It’s possible that this is another move to gain leverage in order to get the best deal from Arlington Heights, where the Bears own Arlington Park and are looking for a new stadium.

This appears to be the Bears’ latest leverage tactic as they try to finalize the stadium deal with Arlington Heights. Arlington Heights remains the best option for the Bears’ next stadium, with the ability to have a stadium as well as an entertainment district, of all the options under consideration.

If the South Lot is chosen as the next location for the Bears’ stadium, there will be some planning to do. Specifically, where would the Bears play while the stadium is being built? Remaining at Soldier Field would be impossible because the new stadium’s construction would eliminate viable parking options.
