JUST IN: MLB insider reveal Braves, Dodgers Have Shown Interest In blockbuster pitcher trade

Tyler Glasnow is still with the Rays after a relatively quiet Winter Meetings until recently. That doesn’t mean trade talks have slowed, as the 6’8′′ righty is one of the sport’s most visible trade candidates.

According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, nearly half of the league has inquired about Glasnow’s availability with the front office. Topkin includes the Dodgers and Braves in that group, while some AL East teams have also inquired about an intra-division swap.

Atlanta has been looking for rotation help for several weeks. The Braves have signed Reynaldo López in anticipation of a rotation move. Alex Anthopoulos, President of Baseball Operations, recently stated that the starting lineup still “has room” for an addition (link via Mark Bowman of MLB.com).

Spencer Strider, Max Fried, and Charlie Morton have all been assigned to the Braves. In-house candidates for the last two roles include López, Bryce Elder, AJ Smith-Shawver, and Dylan Dodd. Hurston Waldrep, a first-round pick last year, could enter the fray at some point. There is talent, but there is also room for one more impact arm to round out what is arguably the best roster in the sport.

A Tyler Glasnow trade is less risky for the Cubs than the Cody Bellinger signing was

Los Angeles has been mentioned as a team to keep an eye on for almost every notable starting pitcher, so it’s no surprise they’ve checked in on Glasnow. The Dodgers’ starting rotation is led by Walker Buehler and Bobby Miller, with little certainty beyond them. They will undoubtedly acquire multiple starting pitchers, with Glasnow being one of many possibilities.

The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers are far from the only teams still in the running. The Angels are looking for a top-tier starter and have expressed interest in Glasnow. The Cubs have been mentioned as a potential suitor several times in recent weeks. The New York Post’s Jon Heyman tweeted on Wednesday afternoon that they are still in the running.
