Tyler Shough, quarterback for the Louisville Cardinals, announced his decision in a recent post on X. After three-year stints with the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Oregon Ducks, the 24-year-old is set to enter his seventh year of NCAA football.
Shough’s collegiate resume demonstrates why teams are willing to let him call the shots as a four-star prospect out of high school. He has a 9-4 record as a starter for the Red Raiders, including a 2022 Texas Bowl game MVP after throwing for 242 yards and three touchdowns. In 27 career games for both schools, he has thrown for 4,625 yards and 36 touchdowns.
On the other hand, teams and fans are still debating whether acquiring an injury-prone quarterback is worth the risk. Shough was injured in each of his three seasons with the Red Raiders. Shough’s tenure at Texas Tech ended with a broken Fibula suffered against West Virginia last September, after breaking his collarbone in 2021 and injuring his left shoulder the following year. He then registered with the transfer portal.
Shough is expected to take over for Jack Plummer, who led the Cardinals for one season and threw for 3,063 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Tyler Shough is nearing the end of his college career and planning one last hurrah. The Arizona native will need to show NFL scouts that his body can withstand physicality at the next level. The ability is already present. All that matters is that you stay healthy.
