HOUSTON (KTRK) — The Houston Texans will try to avoid a major upset against the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon.
The Texans, led by rookie wide receiver Tank Dell, will be without a significant offensive contributor at MetLife Stadium. However, Houston tight end Dalton Schultz could return after missing one game with a hamstring injury.
Schultz was one of four limited participants at the Houston Methodist Training Center on Wednesday. On Nov. 26, he was injured in the Texans’ 24-21 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“Of course, we’re excited whenever we get our starters back,” coach DeMeco Ryans said. “By the end of the season, we’ll see where Dalton ends up.”
Schultz signed as a free agent with the Texans in March and has quickly established himself as one of C.J. Stroud’s top targets in the passing game, with 40 catches for 455 yards and five touchdowns.
Brevin Jordan, a third-year tight end, filled in for Schultz against the Denver Broncos and was instrumental in their 22-17 victory. Jordan had a season-high 64 yards on three catches. His longest came during Stroud’s 27-yard pass attempt.
“I thought it was Brevin best game that I’ve seen,” Ryans was quoted as saying. “I just knew Brevin was going to have a big game because of how he prepared all week.” He was pumped and ready to play physical.
He was explosive in the passing game, and Brevin [Jordan] performed admirably yesterday.”
Will Anderson Jr., Noah Brown, and Sheldon Rankins joined Schultz as limited participants in practice on Wednesday. George Fant (hip), Neville Hewitt (hamstring), Laremy Tunsil (knee), Jimmie Ward (shoulder), and Robert Woods are all out with injuries.
