The Toronto Raptors signed forward Jontay (JOHN-tay) Porter to a two-way contract on Saturday. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed per team policy.
Porter, 6-foot-11, 240 pounds, joins the Raptors from the NBA G League’s Motor City Cruise, where he averaged 16.8 points, 10.7 rebounds (sixth in league), 2.9 blocks (fourth in league), and 33.7 minutes per game (all starts) in 10 games. He has scored in double figures in nine of ten games, including four games with 20 or more points, and has six double-doubles. Porter’s season was highlighted by a 21-point, 19-rebound performance against Iowa on Nov. 20.
Porter, a native of Columbia, Missouri, went undrafted in 2019 before joining the Memphis Grizzles. During the 2020-21 season, he appeared in 11 games for the Grizzlies, averaging 2.0 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 4.9 minutes per game. Porter has also played in the G League, most recently with Memphis (2020-21) and Wisconsin (2022-23).
Porter played collegiately at the University of Missouri for one season (2017-18), where he was named SEC co-Sixth Man of the Year and earned SEC All-Freshman honors. Michael Porter Jr., his younger brother, currently plays for the Denver Nuggets.
