BREAKING NEWS: Top club insider hint Yankees in final stage to land star starting pitcher ‘they desperately want’

The New York Yankees desperately need a quality starting pitcher, and everyone knows it. They have a major hole to fill after sending Michael King to the San Diego Padres in the deal that brought Juan Soto to the Bronx.

Fortunately, ownership is committed to spending aggressively and pursuing international star pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Most fans would think you were insane if you told them they would skip the 2024 off-season with Soto and Yamamoto. The Yankees, on the other hand, are determined to win a championship, if not the World Series.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto: Japan's star pitcher to test MLB free agent market

According to early reports, the team had a fantastic meeting with Yamamoto in Los Angeles. General manager Brian Cashman, Hal Steinbrenner, and pitching coach Matt Blake all attended the meeting, along with Hideki Matsui, the team’s advisor.

According to Jack Curry of the YES Network, the Yankees “desperately want” Yamamoto and believe they are in control.

“I spoke to someone who is familiar with what happened in this interaction, and they described the Yankees as feeling very positive about their pursuit of Yamamoto.”

The Yankees Can Establish a Dominant Pitching Rotation

Combining Yoshinobu with Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon at the top of the rotation for the 2024 season would be a fantastic scenario. This past season, the 25-year-old right-handed pitcher from Japan threw 171 innings across all competitions. He pitched 164 innings in the JPPL, giving up 22 earned runs, two home runs, and 169 strikeouts with a 1.21 ERA. Even though the baseball is heavier and opposing batters provide more resistance in the MLB, his stuff should translate smoothly. He may not finish with an ERA under 2.00, but he should be in the ace range, and as he adjusts to the next level of talent, Yamamoto could become the Yankees’ top arm down the road as Cole declines with age.

Of course, the Yankees will have to compete with the New York Mets and several other teams for his services. Mets owner Steve Cohen traveled to Japan to meet with Yamamoto in person, demonstrating the team’s interest. The Yankees, on the other hand, can provide financial resources as well as a chance to win a World Series in 2024, whereas the Mets are looking to rebuild over the next few years.
