As top contenders compete in the transfer portal, Michigan football rumors are heating up. If J.J. McCarthy declares for the 2024 NFL Draft, the Wolverines will be looking for a new quarterback.
UCLA quarterback Dante Moore, a native of Detroit, is one to keep an eye on. Brad Shepard of Bleacher Report offers his college football transfer portal predictions for the top players. According to the analyst, Jim Harbaugh has found his next potential star quarterback in Moore.
“Allen Trieu of 247Sports wrote recently that Moore ‘possibly’ will visit Oregon next weekend, and that’s even with the Ducks securing a portal commitment from Dillon Gabriel, who has one year of eligibility remaining,” Shepard wrote in an article on December 12, 2023, titled “Predicting Landing Spots for Biggest Names in the 2023 Transfer Portal.”
“If Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy decides to forego his final season in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines could be a serious contender for Moore as well.” Miami is another program linked to the 18-year-old and has some predictions on his On3 profile,” Shepard added.
“Moore, like Jayden Daniels a few seasons ago, may take his time.” But if everything falls into place and McCarthy leaves the Wolverines, it’s too easy to predict. Everything is up in the air right now.”
Why is there so much interest in Moore after his underwhelming freshman season with the Bruins? Moore is a former five-star recruit who was ranked fourth in the 2023 class by 247Sports before enrolling at UCLA.
Moore would be a perfect fit for Ann Arbor, according to numerous Michigan football rumors. If Harbaugh enters the quarterback competition, the Wolverines will be in for a fight.
“Over the weekend, Oklahoma transfer quarterback Dillon Gabriel committed to the Ducks.” Moore is still considering landing in Oregon. The key variable since entering the portal has been finding a place to develop. Learning alongside Gabriel would check that box. Moore’s numbers were modest during his one season in Westwood. The quarterback completed 53.5% of his passes for 1,610 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. Harbaugh is the only person who can get Moore to play to his full potential, which is why Michigan football rumors are rife.
According to ESPN’s Tom Luginbill, Michigan is the best fit for Moore. Moore’s game resembles that of Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, according to the veteran college football analyst.
“Moore is likely at the top of a lot of people’s boards because of his upside, eligibility, and flashes he showed this fall at UCLA,” Luginbill wrote in a December 12 article titled “Best fits for top 10 transfer portal quarterbacks.”
“Going to Michigan makes sense for Moore, a Detroit native who would be able to compete for a championship every year of his eligibility.” He’s not quite the same runner, but as a passer, he shares many of the same characteristics as Jayden Daniels.
