The Philadelphia Phillies are frequently mentioned when discussing tradeable or free agents. The Phillies have demonstrated that they will act aggressively to complete any upgrade that they deem worthy of moving forward with.
Dave Dombrowski understands that this could be Philadelphia’s greatest opportunity to win a World Series. Trea Turner, Aaron Nola, Bryce Harper, and the other key players aren’t getting any younger. Cody Bellinger may be one of the choices available to the Phillies.
Philadelphia is ranked sixth by MLB.com’s Will Leitch as a potential landing place for the former MVP. There is more space in the outfield now that Bryce Harper is a first baseman, but Philly might not want to give up young Johan Rojas and his excellent range from center field. Although the Phillies enjoy acquiring free agents, Bellinger would seem to fit in with this interesting group.
However, at this time, this wouldn’t be addressing a critical need.” The Bellinger in Philadelphia is an interesting concept.
Adding another fan favorite will only improve things, especially considering the passion the club is generating in the city. Bellinger is an intriguing match, though, since the team already has three left-handed hitters who start every game.
That isn’t necessarily a problem, but if the Phillies decide to move, they may choose to add a right-handed hitting outfielder. Nick Castellanos had terrible postseasons, so the team might feel compelled to take action. Although it appears that Philadelphia is finished, it is still early, and they will continue to work to improve their club. Don’t count on this front office.
