Big-time linebacker Elijah Melendez has committed to the Miami Hurricanes, indicating that Mario Cristobal and his staff are working with the 2025 recruiting class even though the Miami Hurricanes are almost done with the 2024 class.
During an unofficial visit to The U, he recently made a verbal commitment to Cristobal and the UM staff.
The 6-foot-2, 2
20-pound linebacker originally hails from Colorado and is a current student at Kissimmee, Florida’s Osceola. Melendez was formerly a running back, but as his body matures, he now plays and performs well at linebacker.
In addition to Miami, Melendez has had offers from Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and numerous other states. Using the 2025 Miami Hurricanes Commitments and Evaluations page, AllHurricanes wrote the following about Melendez:
“Melendez has the best possible shape. He weighs 220 pounds and is 6-foot-2. His downhill style at middle linebacker gives the game an old-school feel. Melendez smashes into lead blocks in an attempt to make contact, exploding the play. Then, even after a significant collision, he manages to reach the ball carrier.”
Here is a video of Corey Carmona and Melendez breaking down his film and talking about his recruitment. The other two commitments from the 2025 Miami recruiting class would be wide receiver Waden Charles and quarterback Luke Nickel. All three of these young men are highly coveted and talented prospects.
