BREAKING NEWS: Braves have terminated the contract of Matt Carpenter, after trading for for veteran infielder

December 18, UPSI Less than three days after obtaining the veteran infielder in a deal with the San Diego Padres, Matt Carpenter was released by the Atlanta Braves, a league source informed UPI on Monday.

On Friday, the Braves received Carpenter, pitcher Ray Kerr, and financial considerations from the Padres. In exchange, they acquired outfielder Drew Campbell.

Carpenter, 38, played in 76 games with the Padres last season, hitting.176 with five home runs and 31 RBIs. In 47 games in 2022, he scored 37 RBIs and blasted 15 home runs for the New York Yankees. A broken foot kept him out of the game for most of that season.

There is a career for the three-time All-Star.260 batting average during 13 seasons, with 175 home runs. When he was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2013, Carpenter led MLB with 199 hits, 126 runs scored, and 55 doubles.

In 2024, he will be due a salary of $5.5 million.
