INGLEWOOD, California: Following the team’s Sunday victory at SoFi Stadium, quarterback Matthew Stafford and head coach Sean McVay of the Rams held separate postgame press conferences with the media. They talked about Stafford’s and wide receiver Cooper Kupp’s performances, running back Kyren Williams’ and other important offensive players’, the fourth-quarter play, and other topics.
The following are some salient points and important lessons from the discussions:
“I thought there was some really good individual performances today, and I think there’s some really great learning opportunities for us, players and coaches alike.” – McVay
Although Kupp, Williams, and Stafford all had excellent games on Sunday, Washington’s 13 fourth-quarter scores came from defensive lapses late in the game, keeping it close.
The Rams have little time to make those adjustments since they have to play the Saints on Thursday night, as McVay pointed out.
“(I said to him) that I got a lot of confidence in him.” – McVay
Williams had two fumbles, but McVay seemed unfazed, and his renewed confidence showed in the opportunities Williams kept getting on Sunday.
In the triumph, Williams finished with 27 carries for 152 yards and 1 touchdown.
“The play concept on Cooper’s touchdown was incredibly well done. Guys, first off, great work; please give me a moment.” – Stafford
Stafford’s 62-yard touchdown ball along the Commanders’ sideline to a wide-open Kupp was one of the day’s highlights.
For the entire game, Kupp had 8 catches for 111 yards and 1 touchdown; this was his 31st game with 100 or more receiving yards in a regular season.
“I’m just doing the best I can to try and help this team win.” – Stafford
With Sunday’s performance included, Stafford has completed 64% of his throws for 1,250 yards and 13 touchdowns against just 2 interceptions.
He completed 25 of 33 passes for 258 yards and two touchdowns in the Commanders’ defeat on Sunday.
