BREAKING NEWS: A top former diamondback player sign blockbuster with the Detroit Tigers

Andrew Chafin, also known as “The Sheriff,” agreed to terms with the Detroit Tigers on a one-year, $4.75 million contract after a wild 2023 season.

Chafin, known for his distinct personality, has quickly become a fan favorite, regardless of which team he is on. This was especially true for the Diamondbacks.

2023 MLB Season Preview: Detroit Tigers - Battery Power

Chafin was drafted in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks and spent 6.5 seasons with the team before embarking on a three-year journey that saw him wear jerseys from five different teams.

This journey began in 2020, when he was traded from the Diamondbacks to the Cubs. He went on to play in Chicago for the first half of the 2021 season before being traded to Oakland for the rest of the season.

Chafin signed a one-year deal with the Tigers for the 2022 season, proving to be a valuable asset. He had an impressive 2.83 ERA, cementing his position as the most dependable mid-reliever in Detroit’s bullpen.

His time with the Tigers, however, was brief, as he packed his belongings and returned to Arizona for the start of the 2023 season. Unlike his first stint with the Diamondbacks, this one did not go as planned.

Did the Detroit Tigers Fumble the Bag at the Trade Deadline?

As a result, the D-backs dealt him to the Brewers at the deadline, and he finished the season in Milwaukee.

Chafin appeared in 43 games for the Diamondbacks and 20 games for the Brewers in 2023. He had a 4.73 ERA and struck out 63 batters in 51 innings between these two stints.

After a season full of twists and turns, Chafin has returned to Detroit, where he appears to be ending his baseball career as a Tiger.

When it comes to returning to Detroit, Chafin is eager to see his family and friends, telling Detroit insider Evan Petzold, “Being that far away from my family started to get to me.” I kept beating myself up about it and other things that didn’t necessarily need to be discussed. It was stupid stuff between my ears, but it’s all gone now. We’re all set to rock and roll.”
