Despite suffering a quadriceps injury in a Week 15 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys right guard Zack Martin could play against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
On Tuesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the injury isn’t a major concern, but they’ll keep an eye on it.
“I understand what a quad bruise is. “We’ll see how he gets his strength there,” Jones told Dallas’ KRLD-FM. “A bruise does two things there: it is painful to work with, but it can also drain the strength from that area.” So I need to get that back.”
According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys will practice on Thursday and conduct a walkthrough on Wednesday. Gehlken added that Martin might be subjected to the “Tyron Smith plan.” To keep him healthy, the Dallas offensive tackle has not participated in weekday practices this season.
If Martin is unable to play, undrafted rookie T.J. Bass will step in. Dallas offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer praised the inexperienced O-lineman on Monday.
“He did a nice job [against Buffalo],” that’s what he said. “There were some fundamental things that I’m sure he’ll work out with [offensive line] coach [Mike] Solari, but we didn’t make any major changes.” I’m a big fan of the Bills’ offensive line; Ed Oliver is a fantastic football player. [Bass] fought. That’s what he’s been doing all year.”
Martin, a six-time first-team All-Pro, playing is the best-case scenario for the Cowboys (10-4). Pro Football Focus recently rated him 71.1, ranking him 13th at his position.
The Dallas offense was clearly impacted when he left the Buffalo game. It only gained 195 yards in the 31-10 thrashing, a season low.
