Miami landed one of its top running back targets on Monday night when Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas four-star Jordan Lyle switched from Ohio State to Miami.
The Hurricanes hosted the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder for an official visit over the weekend, which was all Miami needed to keep the Broward County native home after a long-standing commitment to the Buckeyes. This season, Miami brought Lyle to Hard Rock Stadium for three home games. Cristobal and his staff also found a way to keep a South Florida tailback away from Ryan Day and Ohio State for the second cycle in a row.
Last year, Mark Fletcher chose to stay at home rather than play college football in Columbus.
Lyle finished his high school career with 2616 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns while averaging more than 10-yards per carry as a member of three consecutive state championship winning teams at STA. Lyle rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown in a 31-28 win over Homestead in the state championship game about ten days ago.
Lyle ran for 1376 yards (10.6 yards per carry) and 21 touchdowns in 15 games his senior year.
According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, Lyle is ranked 145th overall and 11th at running back in the country.
With Lyle on board, Miami has assembled an elite class of running backs for the 2024 class. Tuscaloosa County Top247 running back Kevin Riley of Northport (Ala.) is also on board as the Hurricanes battle the hometown Crimson Tide late in the cycle. Chris Wheatley-Humphrey, a South Broward tailback, has been one of the most productive backs in South Florida over the last few seasons.
This cycle, the Hurricanes have 29 commitments from prospects, making them the No. 6 recruiting class in the country. Miami Central Top247 defensive lineman Armondo Blount from Florida State, Largo (Fla.) Top247 linebacker Adarius Hayes from Florida, and Plantation American Heritage defensive back Xavier Lucas from Wisconsin would like to build on the positive momentum that emerged from the final official visit weekend.
