As Ja Morant’s 25-game suspension comes to an end, the Memphis Grizzlies community eagerly awaits his return to watch the young star play his fast-paced, high-flying style of basketball once more. Former NBA player Marc Gasol is one of those looking forward to Morant’s return. Morant posted a photo of Gasol wearing his signature shoes on X, to which Gasol responded in kind:
“Can’t wait to watch you do your thing my guy,” he said.
It’s not surprising that the Spaniard is keeping an eye on Morant’s situation. Gasol has spent the majority of his career with the Memphis Grizzlies. The 38-year-old is best known for being a member of the Grizzlies’ “Grit n Grind” era, a decade in which Memphis was known for its hard-nosed, physical style of play.
In contrast to many teams’ offenses, the Grizzlies’ main source of points at the time was their big men in the post, particularly Gasol and Zach Randolph. During his time with the Grizzlies, Gasol was named an All-Star three times and was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2012-13.
The Grizzlies’ current difficulties
Morant, on the other hand, has a difficult task ahead of him. The Grizzlies are currently 6-19 on the season. To make matters worse, Memphis is beset by injuries. Morant, as the franchise player, is expected to take over the scoring reins and get the team back on track once he returns. Many fans are skeptical that the Grizzlies will even make the playoffs. They need to start winning right away. However, given Ja Morant’s skills on the court, anything is possible.
