According to Jason Mackey of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Andrew McCutchen has agreed to a one-year, $5 million contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates for 2024. McCutchen will be in his 16th MLB season this year.

After signing a three-year, $50 million free agent deal, the former NL MVP spent parts of three years with the Phillies from 2019 to 2021, slashing.237/.343/.444 with 47 home runs, 143 RBIs, and a.787 OPS.

While McCutchen has played for the Phillies, San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, and Milwaukee Brewers, the Pirates have been his most successful team.

McCutchen was selected 11th overall in the 2005 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he spent the first nine seasons of his career, appearing in six All-Star Games.

After a five-year absence, McCutchen will return to the Pirates on a one-year contract in 2023. He slashed in 112 games and was quite productive.With 12 home runs, 43 RBIs, 75 walks, and a.776 OPS, he hit 256/.378/.397.

The 37-year-old will rejoin the Pirates with 299 career home runs, which ranks him 12th among active players. If 2024 is McCutchen’s final season, hitting his 300th career home run in a Pirates uniform should be a memorable moment for him.
