The Indianapolis Colts have suspended two players for the remainder of the regular season for “conduct detrimental to the team.”
Cornerback Tony Brown and receiver Isaiah McKenzie both sat out the Colts’ 30-13 victory over the Steelers on Saturday.
They will also miss the final three regular-season games, it has been announced.
The team did not elaborate on the ‘detrimental conduct’ they are believed to have engaged in but sources told ESPN the issue required ‘severe punishment’.
The pair are usually relegated to backup roles for the Colts, but they have been vital members of the team this season.
McKenzie, meanwhile, had appeared in all 13 of the Colts’ games this season prior to Saturday and was their leading return man.
He’s caught 11 passes for 82 yards and returned 23 punts for 204 yards, averaging 8.9 yards per return.
McKenzie has a better kickoff return record, having returned six for 152 yards with an average of 25.3 yards per return.
It comes at a bad time for Colts coach Shane Steichen, who is hoping to secure a playoff spot in the coming weeks.
If the regular season ended today, the 8-6 Colts would be the No. 7 seed in the playoffs.
In their final three games of the season, they face the Falcons, Raiders, and Texas.
