Derrick Ward, a former NFL running back, is back in trouble with the law, this time facing several felony charges.
Ward, who last played for the Houston Texans in 2011, was arrested on Monday on suspicion of robbing multiple businesses in Los Angeles. According to TMZ, Ward is accused of robbing money from stores, including gas stations, by using force and fear. He did not use a firearm.
According to court records obtained by TMZ, Ward was charged with five felony counts of second-degree robbery on Wednesday.
During his eight NFL seasons, Ward also played for the New York Giants and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in addition to the Texans. He was a member of the New York Giants’ Super Bowl-winning team in 2008, which ended the perfect season of the New England Patriots.
This is not Ward’s first run-in with the law since his retirement from the NFL. Several years ago, the 43-year-old was also accused of assaulting and threatening to kill his ex-wife.
