The Green Bay Packers will try to get back on track this week against the Carolina Panthers. With a record of 6-8, the Packers have a slim chance of making the playoffs. Winning out gives the team an excellent chance, but it is difficult to believe this team can win three straight (again).
However, that three-game winning streak may have just become a little more difficult. Particularly on the offensive end of the field.
When the Green Bay Packers face the Carolina Panthers, they may be without one of their best weapons.
According to Packer Report’s Zachary Jacobson:
Jayden Reed is currently out with a toe injury. It’s his third different injury since Nov. 21, but he’s played in all four Packers games during that time despite suffering from chest and ankle injuries. He’s a tough kid.
Reed is quickly developing into one of the Packers’ toughest offensive players. The number of injuries he has played through (and done well) is nothing short of impressive.
Toe injuries, on the other hand, are a different story. While the two injuries may be unrelated, it is worth noting that Davante Adams missed nearly a month in 2019 due to turf toe.
If Reed is unable to play against the Panthers on Sunday, who will the Packers turn to?
Christian Watson, if he recovers from his hamstring injury, is clearly the best option. Another young wide receiver, on the other hand, is quickly emerging for this team. Wicks had the busiest day of his brief career against the Buccaneers, with Christian Watson (hamstring) out for the second straight game. Wicks caught six of seven targets for 97 yards and connected with quarterback Jordan Love on three 20-yard or longer plays.
If Reed is unable to travel, I expect Wicks to play a larger role in the Packers’ offense. He has unquestionably earned Jordan Love’s trust. When it comes to injuries, the Packers’ wide receiving corps has had a difficult year.
