JUST IN: According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Packers DC feeling ‘heat’ as Packers in contact with other coaches eying job spot

The Green Bay Packers have been on a downward spiral recently, thanks in large part to their defense. After allowing 24 points to the offensively challenged New York Giants on the road in Week 14 and 34 to Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home the following week, Green Bay defensive coordinator Joe Barry’s seat appears to be hotter than ever.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, depending on how the Packers’ defense responds to challenges in the final weeks of the 2023 NFL regular season, Barry could lose the job that is rumored to be being pursued by several people.

“When it comes to coordinators, several positions will be closely watched in the coming weeks.” Joe Barry, the Packers’ defensive coordinator, is under fire. Many people in the coaching industry are interested in that position.”

It doesn’t help Barry’s case that the Packers rank 17th in the NFL this season in scoring defense, allowing 21.5 points per game. Green Bay’s stop unit appears to be more troublesome against the run, as the Packers rank 30th in the league with 138.8 rushing yards allowed per game. However, in Week 15’s loss to the Buccaneers, their pass defense was further exposed, with Baker Mayfield going off for 381 yards and four touchdowns on 22/28 completions in front of Packers fans at Lambeau Field.
