The Atlanta Falcons may be 6-8 right now, but they aren’t out of the playoff picture just yet.
They will face the Indianapolis Colts this weekend, a team that has been surprisingly hot recently, and will finish the regular season on the road against the New Orleans Saints, who have a 7-8 record after Thursday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
Atlanta head coach Arthur Smith was fined by the NFL after failing to disclose earlier this season that rookie running back Bijan Robinson was ill.
According to ProFootballTalk, he understands the league’s point of view and has learned his lesson.
Robinson has been the Falcons’ most potent weapon this season, accumulating 801 rushing yards, 323 receiving yards, and seven total touchdowns in 14 games.
While the Falcons are a relatively weak offensive team overall, Robinson’s production has helped them rank ninth in rushing yards.
He has received some assistance in the passing game, particularly from second-year wide receiver Drake London, who has 769 yards and two touchdowns.
Atlanta hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2017 season, the year after blowing a 25-point lead in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots, and they haven’t finished with a winning record since then.
While they’re still a work in progress, securing a wild card playoff spot would go a long way toward hastening their rebuilding process.
