Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud has been dealing with a concussion for considerably longer than usual.
Stroud is expected to miss the Texans’ Christmas Eve game at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, against the Cleveland Browns. The rookie quarterback will be out for the second week in a row after suffering a concussion against the New York Jets on Dec. 10.
According to CBS Sports Insider Jonathan Jones, Stroud experienced “one of the most significant concussions sustained by a quarterback this season.”
Stroud is said to have been unable to attend Texans sessions, even in a restricted capacity.
Stroud is one of two quarterbacks this season to miss multiple weeks while in concussion protocol, the other being Minnesota Vikings QB Jaren Hall.
However, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans believes Stroud’s injury will not finish his season.
“End? Why would you say something like that? No, no. “Don’t surprise me in that way,” Ryans remarked on Wednesday. “No, we’re following protocol….” The most important thing is to keep C.J. healthy. And he’ll be ready to go when he’s ready.”
The Texans (8-6) are tied for first place in the AFC South division with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts. Houston still has two games left in the season after Sunday’s game against the Browns to get Stroud back on the field.
