The Wisconsin Badgers addressed their quarterback worries for 2024 when Miami Hurricanes Tyler Van Dyke revealed his commitment to the club last week, marking the second season in a row that Wisconsin has used the transfer channel to find an experienced signal-caller.
Van Dyke, a graduate transfer, has one year of eligibility left and hopes to reignite his 2021 form with a return to the Air Raid system under Phil Longo.
When Mordecai transferred to the Badgers last year, he was met with great expectations, as Wisconsin was introducing their new-look system with a slew of new quarterbacks and receivers.
Unfortunately, due to injuries and inefficiencies on offense, Wisconsin was unable to find its footing in conference play, finishing 7-5 despite two wins over Nebraska and Minnesota.
With aspirations of improving on last season’s performance, the Badgers will most certainly turn to Van Dyke as their quarterback replacement in 2024.
Mordecai disclosed to the media ahead of Wisconsin’s bowl game against the LSU Tigers what advice he gave Van Dyke during his visit prior to the latter’s pledge.
“Take it all in.” “I mean, really embrace the culture of this place,” Mordecai stated in response to Van Dyke’s message. “That’s what I told him makes Wisconsin so unique.” It’s like the quantity of guys with great character who care about each other in the locker room. The family vibe is genuine here. That is what everyone preaches, yet it is a living thing.”
“After football games, the entire team’s families all tailgate together.” That doesn’t happen anywhere else, and I’d be willing to bet anything on it. I believe that’s extremely amazing, because everyone cheers for each other and wants them to succeed. I merely told him it’s a unique place.”
The message ultimately worked in Wisconsin’s favor, as Van Dyke committed to the program after his visit and is now anticipated to start for a Badgers squad that is losing Braelon Allen, Chimere Dike, and Skyler Bell in 2024.
