Arthur Smith’s job may have been rescued on Sunday after the Falcons scored a season-high 29 points against the Colts.
Taylor Heinicke accounted for 229 yards and a touchdown on nearly 70% throwing, but more significantly, the veteran did not commit a turnover, which is why Desmond Ridder is holding a clipboard right now.
Prior to the competition, there was much discussion about Smith’s job security. Arthur Blank finally came out last week, defended his guy, and stated they’d evaluate after the season.
When asked about his head coach’s future, Blank stated, “We’re going to play these last three games; we’re going to play ’em to win ’em.” And we’ll see how the season goes from there. Obviously, this has not been the year we anticipated.”
The Falcons owner’s opinion hasn’t altered despite the team’s most remarkable triumph of the season. He wouldn’t commit to anything, at least not in public. “We still have two games left.” Let’s wait and see what occurs. “Like I said last week, we’ll play these last two and then see where we go,” he stated, according to The Athletic.
Regardless of the decision, which is a difficult one to make, Arthur Blank appears to be sticking to his first remark. Blank conveyed the weight of the decision when asked how difficult it was.
“These are extremely difficult decisions.” There are a million variables to consider. You understand that you must represent the franchise, the fans, the players, the coaches — everyone. You must make the right decision for the right reason and live with the consequences. “That’s something my mother used to tell me all the time,” he told The Athletic.
I don’t think Blank wants to let Smith go, and if he’s searching for a reason not to dismiss him, the way his players talk about him is a good one.
“Sometimes you can tell when the energy is bad in the locker room, you can tell change might be coming,” Campbell remarked. “We haven’t got that sensation. People will be sacked if they continue to lose games and fail to attain their goals. But we’re trying hard to demonstrate that we believe in him. I believe he is an excellent leader.”
It will come down to wins and losses, but losing the players’ loyalty would be a scathing indictment of Arthur Smith’s position within the Falcons organization. Despite the lackluster outcomes, this certainly has not occurred.
