The Houston Texans have been faltering recently after a brief hot streak in November, and with an 8-7 record, they’re clinging on for dear life in the AFC playoff chase.
They’re seventh in the conference and third in the AFC South, but they’re tied for the division lead with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts.
Houston has given up at least 30 points in each of their previous two games, and they made a move on Tuesday by claiming defensive back Kareem Jackson off waivers.
According to Aaron Wilson, Jackson seemed anxious to begin working with his new teammates.
Jackson, a first-round draft pick in 2010, spent his first nine seasons with the Texans, where he earned five postseason appearances.
He has been with the Denver Broncos since the 2019 season before being waived.
Jackson has been penalized twice this season for what the NFL considers unnecessary roughness, but he is eager to be coached by DeMeco Ryans, a teammate of his during his previous time in Houston.
He has two interceptions, three passes defended, and 51 tackles (36 solo) in eight games this season.
On Sunday, the Texans face the Tennessee Titans, who are now 5-10, but they will finish the regular season on the road against the Colts in a game that could very well decide who wins the AFC South.
Because the division is so weak in terms of record, winning it appears to be a prerequisite for the Texans to enter the playoffs right now.
