JUST IN: Louisville stafffs all say thesame thing about WR Shaun Boykins

Shaun Boykins of North Hardin is the only in-state prospect among Louisville’s 14 signees. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound wide receiver is an excellent acquisition.

Boykins, who chose the Cardinals over Kentucky, West Virginia, Marshall, and others in April, finished his senior season fourth in the state with 1,451 yards on 84 receptions and 16 touchdowns.

He’s a receiver who isn’t afraid of contact and has a burst of speed that allows him to avoid tacklers.

“We really like Shaun Boykins,” said Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm on signing day. “He’s a born athlete.” He’s a powerful young man. He’s well-prepared, and he competes.”
Boykins was named the Courier Journal’s first-team All-State wide receiver and was named the Class 6A District Player of the Year, according to 247Sports.

His competitive spirit extends to other sports as well. Boykins leads North Hardin’s basketball team with a 19.8 point per game average through six games. He’s shooting 55% from the field and grabbing 4.7 rebounds per game to help North Hardin to a 4-2 start.

“He’s really good at a lot of sports, football, basketball, track,” Brohm said. “It always impresses me when they can do more than one thing, and they’re competing on a daily basis to be the best on the football field, basketball court, and track and field.” So we like him a lot.”

Boykins’ physical play will help him rise up the depth chart. How quickly he learns the offensive playbook and adjusts to the pace of the college game will help determine how much game time he gets as a true freshman.

“I think he’ll add a ton of value to our team,” Brohm told ESPN. “He’ll come in and compete right away.” We’re just getting him up to speed on the terminology. The speed of the college game will be important to see how he adapts, but he’s definitely played a lot of really good football and basketball, as well as a lot of competitive things throughout his career. And he wants to be here, and I believe he can do an excellent job for us.”
